Community Oriented Police Officers

The Officers and staff of the City of St. Marys Police Department are committed and dedicated to protecting the lives and property of our citizens as well as participating in activities and events that promote the safety and well being of our community. Annual training and education opportunities enable police officers to continually learn and enhance this ability, expanding their knowledge and skills to achieve our mission.

The St. Marys Police Department routinely collaborates with several organizations that include other law enforcement agencies, emergency services, educational institutions, social services, religious groups, non-profit organizations and other interest groups to address problems, and develop and present a multi-dimensional approach on awareness, and strategies that enhance safety and that reduces crime. Examples include the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) program and programs designed to protect kids online against threats such as cyber bullying and predators. Pro family - pro social activities provide the opportunity for police officers to have a more proactive role in the community and aims to increase relations between the police and the citizens, that improves public safety. Community Oriented policing aids in improving effectiveness by directing efforts through programming and enforcement that addresses specific issues or problems, and by connecting and working together with our citizenry. This strategy has the effect of neutralizing offender motivations and their means and will to offend.

Officers are further involved as coaches for various sports events, church activities, and are members of numerous organizations within the community where there participation reflects the ongoing commitment to the safety and well being of everyone.
